WPCA and SIRA push for car park CCTV

West Pittwater Community Association and Scotland Island Residents Association have joined forces to urge Northern Beaches Council to act on car park security at Church Point.

A letter from WPCA and SIRA has been sent to Council, asking that CCTV cameras be installed at Church Point carparks to deter thieves and vandals.

As a recent BaysNews story reported, thefts have been an unfortunate and recurring problem for decades but have recently escalated. As the letter points out to Council, car park conditions are unsafe, and despite residents having to pay $500 a year for a Church Point Parking Permit there is absolutely no security at the car parks for users or for vehicles.

Council recently decided to undertake a review of parking at Church Point. WPCA and SIRA understand that Council’s Transport Network team will look at the overall operation of parking in the Church Point area to explore opportunities where changes may be suggested and that this exploration might include consideration of CCTV.

Both organisations strongly urge that CCTV should not be considered as a possibility but as a necessity.

In correspondence with SIRA president Colin Haskell, NBC Mayor Michael Regan said he was happy to investigate the use of CCTV.
