Updating community priorities

Northern Beaches Council is seeking input from residents on a Community Strategic Plan (CSP) designed to set priorities for the next two decades.

The area’s first CSP was developed in 2016 when Northern Beaches Council was formed from the amalgamation of Pittwater, Warringah and Manly councils. NBC says community feedback will help guide development of this second CSP, which looks forward to 2040. A draft of the plan is expected to be exhibited publicly in the middle of the year.

A discussion paper, available for download, covers areas such as key challenges, aspirations, environmental sustainability, the local economy and transport among other matters. The paper was informed by community consultation.

“The main challenges raised by the community include housing affordability, environmental concerns (including climate change and environmental degradation) and mental health. Transport, infrastructure and connectivity are also significant issues across the local area particularly related to congestion and public transport,” says Council.

There was a view that “the need for more infrastructure is at odds with the over-arching desire to maintain and protect the natural environment that makes the Northern Beaches so special”.

Comments on the CSP close on Wednesday March 2.
