Relocation of Ferry Wharf

It was May last year that BaysNews last reported on the relocation of the ferry wharf from its temporary home in front of the small beach at Church Point and unfortunately there has been little or no information on any developments since then. The latest missive sent to WPCA (January 2023) from NBC still cites the problem of moorings needing to be relocated despite the fact that this was done over a year ago.

Another sticking point appears to be navigational issues for barge skippers needing access to the Cargo wharf, however a survey carried out by WPCA with all the local barge owners/operators, found they had no such navigational issues.

Judging from the correspondence from Council, it seems the relocation of the ferry wharf is definitely not a priority:

“… the relocation of the ferry wharf would require considerable capital investment from Council. Whilst we appreciate that this work may be desirable from an amenity perspective and has the support of the Church Point Plan of Management, it is presently considered a low priority. The work will remain on our long term forward works plan and will continue to be considered when we prepare capital works programs, however its inclusion in a works program will be dependent on mooring relocations (really?) and the availability of grant funding. It is noted that the work is unlikely to be funded on TfNSW (Transport for NSW) Boating Now grant given its commercial function.”

Sounds like it has gone into the “too hard” basket.
