Locals finish at Syd-Hobart

Sydney to Hobart 78th Yacht Race

Boxing Day displayed perfect weather for the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and what a spectacle it always is to see those amazing boats in the Harbour.

The race started with a dramatic near collision between SHK Scallywag and Andoo Comanche and ended with a nail-biting finish between LawConnect and Andoo Comanche, with LawConnect crossing the finish line less than a minute before its rival.

Local Pittwater boat Bumblebee V finished the race in 14th place and came 6th in IRC Division 1 with Liam Johnston from Elvina Bay as Sailing Master.

When interviewed at the finish line in Hobart Liam reported: ‘Feeling very proud and super happy after finishing 14th across the line in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart in a very rough and tough race. A lot of time, effort and stress over the last 4 months getting the Bumblebee race ready but it has all paid off. Super proud of the boat, the crew and owner Paul Blakeley’.

Another local, Michael Doherty was aboard Supernova which came in 61st and 5th in IRC Division 4.
