Engaging with Council

Northern Beaches Council’s new Community Engagement Policy and Strategy will be discussed at West Pittwater Community Association’s committee meeting on February 20. Andrew Grocott, who is NBC’s Manager, Community Engagement, will be a guest of the committee.

Andrew will outline NBC’s proposals and what they mean for the Pittwater community. Broadly speaking the Community Engagement Policy and Strategy is designed to give the community and stakeholders the chance to find out about Council projects and be involved in NBC’s decision-making process. Council describes the purpose as “making it easier to find out what we do and how we do it”.

Last year Council reviewed what was then called its Community Engagement Policy and Matrix, which was adopted in 2017. It called for public submissions and received about 80. That feedback is currently being reviewed.

Among Council’s principles for engagement are good communication, the building and maintaining of relationships, listening and responding, and learning and improving. The draft policy states that council is committed to actively communicating with and listening to the community and stakeholders before, during and after decision-making.
