What’s happening to Church Point Ferry Wharf?

Offshore residents can’t be blamed for wondering what is happening with the Ferry Wharf at Church Point.  For those who don’t know, the existing wharf was never intended to be permanent.  It was originally moved to where it is as the old timber wharf alongside the Waterfront Café required major refurbishment and was considered unsafe.

Council plans of the proposed boardwalk show the ferry wharf alongside but now that the boardwalk works have commenced, the question is why isn’t the ferry wharf being included?

It seems that Council are waiting on Maritime (Transport NSW) to give the green light but Maritime say that the location of 6 commercial moorings prevents the ferry from docking safely.  However, according to WPCA, those moorings were moved over 5 months ago.  So what’s going on?

The removal of the temporary ferry wharf will be a boon for residents and visitors alike as it will open up the lovely little beach at Church Point.  Let’s hope it still happens and Council doesn’t relegate it to the too hard basket.
