New Northern Beaches Council elected

The new Northern Beaches Council was sworn in on December 29 following the December 4 local government elections.

There were two nominations for the position of Mayor. Councillor Michael Regan went up against newly elected Liberal Councillor Bianca Crvelin and won the vote 9-6. This is Councillor Regan’s second term as Mayor. He heads the Your Northern Beaches Independent Team.

Councillor Candy Bingham was unopposed in the vote for Deputy Mayor.

Pittwater Ward is represented by Rory Amon (Liberal) and newcomers Miranda Korzy (Greens) and Michael Gencher (Your Northern Beaches Independent Team).

The Northern Beaches Advocate reported that due to the rising number of COVID infections, “Northern Beaches Council CEO Ray Brownlee made the recommendation that inaugural speeches be deferred to the February 2022 meeting of Council to limit the duration of the Council meeting”.

The Northern Beaches Advocate also reported that Councillor David Walton opposed a motion for delegated authority of Council be handed to Mayor Michael Regan until the February meeting. However, the motion was passed 10-5 in favour of delegated authority of Council sitting with the Mayor until the next scheduled meeting of Council on February 22.
