The Bays are odder than you (already) knew

In 2021, most residents of the Bays completed the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census form.

Perhaps I’m alone here, but I find census data fascinating and useful; for example, did you know that almost half the Australian population have a parent born overseas? And that India is the third largest country of birth behind Australia and England?

And that the median age of all Australians is 38 years? And that more than 2% are aged 85 and over?

And that 25% MORE people identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander than did so in the 2016 Census? (But that’s a topic for another day.)

And that almost 51% of the Australian population is female, and 49% are male?

What’s also interesting is that these data are NOT reflected here in the Bays.

So here is an illustrated snapshot of the Bays’ population according to the 2021 ABS Census.

Please note:

  1. Data is complex and fallible, and so am I
  2. I’m currently unable to access data on our LGBTQI population
  3. I sincerely apologise for the stereotypical representations
