A number of Western Shores locals are concerned at the expansion plans for Holmeport Marina in McCarrs Creek. If approved, the development will see the number of berths rise from 59 to 73 and these will accommodate very much larger craft. Alan Yuille and I have been attending Pittwater/Northern Beaches Council DU meetings and expressed our dismay at the virtual filling in of much of McCarrs creek with moored vessels.
As a result of our objections, the management of Holmeport offered to remove 30 swing moorings and return them to the care of the RMS. My feeling is that it won’t take long for the RMS to reallocate these swing moorings to the waiting list and thus negating any benefit of additional space.
Apart from the loss of waterways there is the matter of the extra parking that will be required to cater for the many more crew and passengers of these larger craft. Holmeport are not offering any additional parking facilities and so I suspect you can guess where these extra visitors will park.
If we don’t do something this matter will be approved on: Monday 18th July 2016.
The meeting of the JRPP (Joint Regional Planning Panel) is to be held at:
Date: Monday 18th July
Where: the Conference Room of Council’s Customer Service Centre,
If you find the time, your presence at the meeting would certainly add weight to our argument. You need to nothing other than be there.
