Council Vegetation Collection

Date: 27-Jan-2020

To help reduce the risk of bushfire and ember attacks, Council is organising another fine fuel collection as well as a vegetation collection.

The two collections will run concurrently but have different collection instructions because of the nature of the material being collected.

Fine Fuel Collection

What is a fine fuel?

Fine fuel includes dried leaves, twigs and bark that can easily catch fire. Fine fuels are less than the diameter of your little finger.

  1. Pick up one bag per household from Wednesday 15 January at any of the below locations.
    • North Elvina Bay Wharf
    • South Elvina Bay Wharf
    • Halls Wharf
    • Morning Bay Wharf
    • Bennetts Wharf
    • Mackerel Beach Wharf

  2. Clear your roof and rake up all the fine fuel around your house. Place it in the bags supplied by Council.

  3. Place your filled bags at the following locations

    • Properties adjacent a fire trail or road reserve – The bags will be collected from the fire trail or road reserve in front of or behind your house
    • Properties with a private Jetty – the bags will be collected from either the fire trail or road reserve in front of your house or your private jetty
    • Anyone can also place their bags at the nearest public wharf
    • Mackerel Beach residents on the waterfront from 14-34 Ross Smith Parade, place your large bags at the northern corner of Monash Avenue and Ross Smith Parade.
    • Properties at West Lovett, YHA, Bonniedoon and Coasters Retreat, 12-34 Bona Crescent, The Chase and Lovett Bay, place your large bags at the nearest public wharf or on your private jetty.

* If your collection location is a public wharf, please secure vegetation at the wharf’s entrance point to avoid spillage and ensure clear access for pedestrians.

** Please place your bags so as to leave a 3m gap in the road reserve or fire trails to allow emergency access

When is it happening?

Bag collection starts from Tuesday 28 January and will continue until all the bags are collected.

Vegetation Collection

Further to the work undertaken to reduce fine fuel in your community, Council is working with URM who will be delivering a vegetation collection.

What do you need to do?

  1. Present your vegetation in tied bundles or a hard-sided container.
  2. Material presented in plastic, hessian bags, cardboard or foam boxes and untied bundles, will not be collected.
